Trips and Exchanges

Germany and The United Kingdom.  Historically, we have always had, due to the fact that this is a Bilingual School, an exchange programme with the United Kingdom, specifically with the cities of London and Manchester, which is done usually in the last semester of the school year.

The idea is to get our students to live the social and cultural realities of the UK and for them to experience real situations: the language, every day life, the food, the traditions, etc.

We started an exchange programme six years ago with Germany. Every November our school is visited by a group of German students who spend some time with us and live the with families of our students. In February our students visit Germany and stay in a German city for a week and live with the families of our exchange students in Germany.

In our school our students use English as a second language starting from pre-k, in every day school life, and German starting from 4th grade all the way to High school.

There are also camping trips for students in Secondary school to La Palma, La Gomera, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. The objective is for our students to see and do what they’ve learned in the classroom and too spend some time together in camaraderie and learning important values.

Ceremonies and celebrations

Teacher’s Appreciation Week, Immaculate Conception Day and Constitution Day: During the first week of December, 1st and 2nd graders prepare the celebration of these three festivities during the first school semester. A big festivity takes place with the participation of the entire  school community ; parents, the families, faculty and students.

Christmas: 3rd and 4th graders prepare the Christmas Festivities, in which the whole school participates particularly 10th grade students in enacting the traditional Christmas Pageant ; coordinated by the Religion and Language Arts Departments.  The families and the entire school community participate in this festivity, in which music, an essential area in our school,  is heard in the Christmas Carols sung by our students. We can appreciate our school values and family warmth which are always present year after year during this precious festivity celebrated on the third week of December.

World Peace Day:  Secondary school students prepare a festivity on the topic of Peace, taking place in the last days of January, on the commemorative date of Mahatma Gandhi’s death, January 30th. The entire school participates in this festivity through activities such as writing contests and  short stories on Peace which are read to the families, who also participate in this festivity.

Carnival: Our school has been ,since it’s foundation, close to the social and cultural realities of the island of Tenerife and the tradition of the celebration of Carnival is part of the history of Tenerife and the Canary Islands. Therefore, during Carnival week in February our school picks out a day in which students wear costumes and celebrate their Carnival. Every stage participates in this party, where music and laughter can be seen and heard everywhere.

World Book Day:  Books are considered a friend here at our school. They accompany us during the whole year and are considered a fundamental tool in the life of our students guided by the school’s Reading programme and the promotion of the school library as another basic tool in this programme. In April both students and their families celebrate World Book Day through writing contests, story – telling and writers, and anyone involved in the world of literature are invited to our school.

End of Year Party: This festivity celebrates the end and the continuation of the love for learning. Students ranging from pre-k all the way to 12th grade prepare this festivity at the end of the month of June where one can see all sorts of performances on stage. It’s an important day at our school which also coincides with the day of our patron la Virgen del Mar (“Virgin of the seas”). Students, Faculty and families get together to bid farewell to another school year.

10th Grade and 12 Grade (High School) Graduation Ceremony:  Every year our school celebrates  the 10th grade Graduation(the end of Secondary School here in Spain) where the board of Directors , Faculty and family celebrate the ending of one chapter in our student’s lives and the beginning of another.

In this school year 2016-2017, our school will celebrate it’s first High School Graduation, coinciding with the first promotion to finish 12th grade and undertaking the road to University.

School trips

School trips

Many school trips are planned during the school year in order to get our students in touch with the reality that surrounds them; whether cultural or scientific. To that end students visit organizations and businesses related to the fields of industry, communication, etc.

This learning tool is used from very early all the way to High School, where we have alliances with organizations such as the IPNA-CSIC through which our students are able to do apprenticeships in labs during the school year.
