Robotics education

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

65% of children will end up working in jobs that haven’t been invented yet. They need to learn to develop skills that will be useful in the XXI century in four main areas: communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. This last one being the area which Robotics education with Legos most focuses on.

This discipline is , above all, a learning method based on creativity and innovation.

It’s an interdisciplinary teaching method because it encompasses areas in different subjects in the school curriculum. Areas such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEM, are worked on and other areas such as Linguistics.

Students work in groups on the projects introduced by the teacher. Using the pieces, motors, hubs and sensors provided by Lego, they will construct a robot which will be given life. That’s where block-structured programming comes in, where by dragging different available actions (blocks), students will breathe life into their creations and have them do their bidding.

The following are some examples of the creations/Lego constructions made by our students.

This extracurricular activity is done Mondays to Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:30 and from 1:30 to 2:30.

Rhythm,  coordination, flexibility, and muscle tone… even though it is not a repetitive activity and tends to focus on having fun, muscle tone is really worked on with visible results in just a few weeks. Furthermore,  modern dance has a positive  effect on humour and mood. It also improves one’s  physical condition in the short run. Lessons are fun and different. It’s a more enjoyable way of doing exercise and it’s not the same old you get in gyms. It’s an enjoyable activity that will get you hooked.

The importance of music in a Comprehensive Education.

Studies show that music favours attention span and concentration in students making it easier for students to obtain better grades.

Music stimulates memory, analysis, synthesis and reasoning and therefore learning.

Piano and piano keyboard

This extracurricular activity highlights the importance of music in the overall  education our students.

We tend to pay a lot of attention to sports as a way of stimulating the physical development of students but we forget that music also has an important role to play in a child’s physical evolution.

The Piano, as an instrument, strengthens neural connections in the brain. It promotes concentration and attention and it strengthens memory. The Piano is also used as a means of relaxation, making it a good option for  students who tend to get nervous.

Intellectually, there seems to be a connection between playing the piano and getting better grades at school. This might be due to the fact that the piano stimulates learning and helps the child to develop certain skills such as mathematical calculations or verbal communication.
